How to Discharge and Cycle RC LiPo Packs at the Track
If you race RC cars, you already know LiPo batteries are fast and need respect. Part of looking after them is not leaving packs fully charged for long periods, and being able to bring a pack down to a safer storage level without leaving the pit table.
Why discharge at all? LiPo packs are happiest at a mid-level storage voltage rather than fully charged. If you charge for a race and the day gets rained out, or you finish with a full pack, you want a way to bring it back down safely. Many racers do this with a dedicated discharger instead of running the car until it is empty.
What a pit-side discharge block does. A discharge block gives a pack a safe, controlled load so it can be brought down in a measured way. Ours is a 400W RC LiPo Discharge Block in a compact 3D-printed case, with your choice of XT60 to XT60 or XT60 to 4 mm cable, in 300 or 400 mm lengths, in 10 colors: https://www.cheesegatorhobbies.com/product-page/power-discharge-block
Basic safety habits. Always follow your battery and charger manufacturer's instructions first. This page is general information, not a replacement for them. Never leave a pack unattended while charging or discharging. Cycle on a non-flammable surface, away from anything that can burn, and keep a LiPo-safe bag or container nearby. Stop immediately if a pack is hot, swollen or damaged. Check connectors and cables before every use.
Keeping your power gear organized. A power breakout box gives you tidy, organized connections at the pit table: https://www.cheesegatorhobbies.com/product-page/power-breakout-box
